The hire
that looked right.

A home care agency owner. A new client. Six resumes. One decision that felt completely reasonable at the time.

Chapter One

Her name is Denise.

She has been running her home care agency out of Humble, Texas for three years. Eleven clients. Seven caregivers. A waiting list she is finally starting to build.

On a Tuesday in October she gets a call from a woman named Carol. Carol's mother, Eleanor, is eighty-one. She had been with another agency for two years. A caregiver did not show three times in one month. Carol is done. She found Denise through a neighbor's referral.

Hi, my name is Carol. My neighbor Susan said you care for her father. I have been looking for someone reliable for my mother. Are you taking new clients?
Hi Carol, yes we are. I would love to talk. Your mother is in good hands with us.
I just need to ask one thing first. Are your caregivers reliable? Our last agency let us down so many times.
That is the one thing I can promise you. Yes.
Eleanor starts Monday. Twelve hours a week. Morning shifts. Denise feels good about it. This is why she started the agency.

Now she needs to add a caregiver to cover Eleanor's shifts. She does what she always does.

Chapter Two

She writes a careful job description. Emphasizes reliability. Posts it on three platforms. Sends it to two Facebook groups. Texts a staffing coordinator she knows.

She does what everyone does.

Denise was not making a bad decision.
She was making a blind one.

Every agency owner in this industry has been doing the same thing since the beginning.
The tools never showed them anything different.

The one she could have met

Jerome was not in Denise's inbox.

He never applied to her posting. He was not on any of the platforms she used. He did not respond to her Facebook groups. He was not findable by any part of the process she ran on Wednesday night.

While Denise was reading six resumes, Jerome was inside a network her hiring process had no access to. Already vetted. Already rated. Already available in her market. Waiting to be found by an agency that knew where to look.

Denise did not know that network existed.

Jerome came from eleven years as a patient care technician in a hospital. He did not know how to write that into a resume that made sense to an agency owner scanning six applications at 8:47pm on a Wednesday. His resume looked thin because resumes were never designed to show what actually matters.

Eleanor would have loved him.

How many Tanyas
have you hired?
How many Jeromes have you passed on?

The best caregivers in your market are not on job boards.
They already know better. They moved on to a system that shows who they actually are.
